Armed with the knowledge of just how sturdy the Olympus tough really is, 1st Place targeted The Gadget Show to demonstrate the camera to an engaged and interested audience.
We eventually persuaded them to feature the camera in the first edition of what would become a regular feature in the show, 'Tested to Destruction'.
The hostile landscapes of Iceland would be used to demonstrate the key features of the Olympus compact digital camera in situations we knew would trounce the competition.
Seen taking pictures from a helicopter (testing image stabilisation) dipping in the Blue Lagoon (waterproof to 10 meters) buried in hot, rocky soil (dustproof) and finally dragged on chains behind a 4 x 4 (even shockproof), the Olympus camera remained completely intact and fully functioning.
The brand name and camera model were flashed across the screen each time camera won a test against the competition.
In the following days, the Olympus 770SW saw a sales increase of 200%.
Amazon sold out of the model completely by the end of the week.
Voted an outright star and highly recommended by Suzi Perry and Jason Bradbury, the Olympus 770WSW now resides in the
Gadget Hall of Fame.
